Employment at WSSRA
The West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA) is a cooperative extension of nine park districts and two villages. WSSRA was formed in 1976 to coordinate Employment year round recreational activities for individuals with disabilities.

Recreational Activities Include: Arts and Crafts, Sports Programs, Cultural Arts, Fitness, Social Clubs, Day Camps, Overnight Trips and Special Olympics!

WSSRA runs 40-50 programs a week during a typical program season. During the summer we have 20-30 programs per week as well as 9 day camps.

WSSRA is always looking for qualified Recreation Leaders to fill the following seasonal positions:

  • Program Staff
  • Inclusion Aides
  • Program Supervisors
  • Day Camp Supervisors
  • Lifeguards
  • Day Camp Recreation Leaders
  • Special Olympics
  • Referees

Volunteer Experience

In addition to paid positions, WSSRA offers you the opportunity to volunteer and make a difference.


All staff and volunteers receive training prior to participation in a program. Trainings are held throughout the year, and teach program adaptations and disability awareness. We will review policies, procedures and staff expectations.

Things You Should Know
  • You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the program sites.
  • You must be 16 years or older for paid employment.
  • Individuals under 16 years of age are encouraged to volunteer with parent approval.
